Failure should bother you. If it doesn't — that's the real problem.

The conversation around failure has gotten so watered down that we've convinced an entire generation of athletes that the goal is to feel nothing when they lose.

That's not mental toughness. That's indifference.

And indifference never built anything great.

Here's what nobody wants to say out loud: caring deeply about the outcome is not a weakness. It's not only normal, but encouraged. The sting of a loss, the weight of a missed opportunity, the frustration of falling short — those emotions exist because something mattered to you.

The problem was never the feeling.

The problem is what you do with it.

Failure should hurt. It should sit with you. It should keep you up at night long enough to make you dangerous the next morning.

What it should never do is keep you out of the arena.

The pain isn't a stop sign. It's a compass.

Let it bother you. Let it burn.

Then let it build you.

Because the athletes who become elite aren't the ones who stopped caring when they lost.

They're the ones who cared so much — they refused to stay down.

This Week

To Building Fortitude.

Warm regards,

Colin Jonov CEO & Founder, Athletic Fortitude
